I start my morning prayer ritual reading from The Divine Hours; A Manual for Prayer, compiled by Phyllis Tickle. (There is also an online version http://www.explorefaith.org/prayer/fixed/hours.php) Tickle is an Episcopalian so it is not surprising that the liturgy that she has put together has the feel of The Book of Common Prayer. I like the formality and routine as I wake up and start my day, although I must admit that sometimes my reading is more rote than thoughtful. However, when I do become intentional about the words, I’m in awe of their power. This morning I was struck by ‘The Prayer Appointed for the Week’.
O Lord, mercifully receive the prayers of your servant who calls upon you, and grant that I may know and understand what things I ought to do, and that I also may have the grace and power faithfully to accomplish them; through Jesus Christ our Lord who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen
As a start, what if I could remember to try to have the grace and power to faithfully accomplish what God wants me to do?
