About this blog~
I am probably one of the most normal looking and acting white women on the planet, well at least in the USA. What makes me different is that I feel called to pray for people. I’m very careful about sharing this with those I know because many of them just don't get it and… talk about a conversation stopper!!! On the other hand, I have many friends who pray and who aren’t afraid of knowing someone who even feels it as a calling. When the time is right, I’ll tell them about this blog, but for now just going to blog away and see what happens.
Actually, I’m rather surprised to find myself starting Prayer Diaries. I already have a blog that speaks to some of the conditions that support prayer. A cottage by the sea: for people looking for silence, solitude and simplicity and who sometimes like to be alone. www.acottagebythesea.net I’ve done my best to keep the blog true to its purpose-- and prayer feels too powerful and too emotionally laden to sneak in under the topic of silence, solitude and simplicity. It needs a spot of its own. I want those who are comfortable with those 3S’s, but who want no part of prayer or who are afraid of anything that smacks of organized religion, to feel comfortable with my cottage by the sea blog. Ever since my first 'cottage post' back in November, I have felt that I’ve been leaving out an important part—no, the important part- of who I am. So here I go with Prayer Diaries. Most of us would agree that praying is and an incredibly mysterious and personal experience and extremely difficult to understand or put into words. But here I am, attempting to do just that. Join me. There are no wrong answers. |
A little more background~
All my life I have been drawn to
things spiritual. I was raised in a United Church of Christ (UCC) church. My
husband and I brought our children up in a Unitarian church. About fifteen
years ago I returned to my spiritual roots and joined the UCC church in town
and then, much to my surprise found myself earning a Master of Divinity degree.
But most importantly, I kept sensing that I was supposed to pray for people.
Now, where would I possibly get that idea? All I know is that in the
past fifteen or so years I haven’t been able to get that thought out of my mind. Never
in a million years would I ever be able to make up something as extraordinary as
being called to be a prayer person. I don’t want to defend or explain this
call. I just want to share what I know, feel and do around prayer and join together
with others who are intrigued, curious, compelled, called, you name it, to
pray.
That’s the purpose of these Prayer Diaries—to share, explore and learn with each other. |
