I’ve been delving into the manila folders in which Mom kept her church papers. Most of them date from the late 1950s and into the 60s, when Mom was particularly active in her local UCC church and on the state level. I knew she was involved in church committees but I had no idea of the extent. So before me now I have agendas for meetings she lead, prayers and papers that she presented and pamphlets about many aspects of Christian life.
For the next eight days I want to share from a little leaflet entitled, “My Life Creed,” which is an extract from “Living Every Day,” by Joseph Fort Newton. Each day I’ll post one the sections and add it as we go along to the Prayers and Poems section of my blog. Believe me, each is worth praying; each expresses my mom’s belief in the good-will that humankind can do through faith in God. Here’s the first.
I BELIEVE that good-will is the divinest activity of the spirit of man, the wisest method, the secret of cooperative living, and the most powerful force in the realm of human affairs.
