George Bernard Shaw
|A Prayer Diary||
In this season of much singing, I ask those who love our Lord Jesus to ask very specially for singing hearts.
I love a cute pageant as much as the next person, but this day is about much more than that. Christmas reminds us that our God is not distant and remote. God in Jesus Christ was born into our world to be in solidarity with us, to show us perfect love. On Christmas Day, we praise God for the birth of Jesus Christ, the eternal Word.
The idea is not that we do work for God, but that we are so loyal to Him that He can do His work through us.
By heavenly standards, perhaps forgiving and being forgiven are two names for the same thing.
We have to begin to love one another in the fullest sense of Christ’s teaching. But to do so we must pray. . . . The immense problems of war, of social injustice, of the thousand and one ills that beset our world, these can be solved only if we begin to love one another.
Catherine de Hueck Doherty (1896–1985)
We are hardwired for eternity and we are transformed bit by bit by the Holy Spirit.
If I am not fully free, then the love of God, I hope, will free me.
Thomas Merton (b. 1/31/1910, d.12/10/1968)
