|A Prayer Diary
On this day in this Holy Week, you have the power to decide what this day means to you.
It is true that God stands with God’s people through every trial, but not so that they will sit comfortably with the privilege of apparent divine favor.
Rev. Stephanie Spellers, quoted in www.cac.org
The reason Lent is so long is that this path to the truth of oneself is long and snagged with thorns, and at the very end one stands alone before the broken body crowned with thorns upon the cross.
It is about being willing to suffer for something worth suffering for, as Jesus did, without allowing ourselves to be destroyed by it.
This Monday I once again embrace the meaning and purpose of Lent, which is a re-focusing on a God-centered life, a “change of mind” (metanoia) according to a humble self-acceptance, according to my God-given possibilities or “vocation.”

… we need to switch our thinking from “Jesus came to fulfill us” to “we have come to fulfill Christ.
If we do not bear the cross of the Master, we will have to bear the cross of the world, with all its earthy goods. Which cross have you taken up? Pause and consider.

To follow Jesus Christ today is to follow a madman according to the ideals of present day civilization.
